This past week or two have been good for my local music side. Finally saw some great bands that everyone probably already knows about. I finally saw Electric Cities, and speaking for myself, I really look forward to hearing the this band in studio form. Their performance was good, for being a show at the Coffee House Cafe, there really can’t be too much to expect. Daniel and Markly look natural on stage, and the drumer is good. =)
I’m not a writer, just talking out loud here.
More on this whole “Local Music Scene” later.
writing up events sucks. it’s just that simple. i don’t like doing it. so for me and everyone elses sake, use google calendars. thank you thespaceistheplace.com, they have it right. finally i got it kinda to work.
Next is to tackle the photodata base. time, i will need lots of time.
Typing is interesting. The phone completes my words for me; if I want.
you know what stops me from getting a job? interviews. Luckly, i have a couple interviews coming up in august. one is for organic fresh fingers, and two is for honeywood winery.
on the graphic design side of my life, it’s good. currently working on a web site for gold star transport inc. I just recently finished up a logo for Solarize Salem. hopefully the Solarize Salem designs will continue for a while.
wine walk is tonight. word on the street is that we’ll be drinking champagne. ooo la la. ive always wanted to go to a wine walk, young mexican dude trying to look like a real wine drinker. standing next to father time and a blinged out betty crocker.
Franz Liszt once said, “The character of instrumental music… lets the emotions radiate and shine in their own character without presuming to display them as real or imaginary representations.” Enter instrumental artists Paper Canyons with their self-titled E.P release. This independent release first caught my eye with its unique packaging. Wrapped in brown paper, stamped with a title “Handmade by: Paper Canyons”, wax stamped (like a document from medieval times) and tied with a string (points awarded for creativity).
Putting the CD into my player, my anticipation and curiosity peaked, I did not expect what would come from my speakers. Three tracks of ambient, instrumental, beauty flowed through my car stereo speakers and rested themselves firmly in my inner ear. Each track perfectly following the next without so much as a break. And yet each track unique in its own right.
Imagine if you will, you have been put in charge of the score to a movie. This album would be your best bet. Like the score to a movie, Paper Canyons music brings about every emotion you would feel in a movie. A slow beautiful start, the building anticipation and finally the pummeling dramatic finish. Driving bass lines, thundering drums and intricate guitar work come together to bring you a beautiful album release.
This bands main objective? To bring back to the music scene what has been long forgotten. Expect great things from these four gentleman as they pave a way and make their mark among some of music’s finest.
FILE UNDER: Ambient, Progressive and beautiful with the sub-genre being: soundtrack to your life.

ALL AGES WILL SUFFER AT THE WASTELAND
730 Front St., Salem, OR 97301
SATURDAY, MARCH 20
$5 cover, doors open at 7PM
Who’s Playing? Mrs. Esterhouse (PDX); Atracity, YIA and; Generation Decline (Bremerton, WA); Bad Terms (Corvallis)
I can tell you that the Bremerton Crew really knows how to put on a good show. All three bands are genuine punks at heart and are DIY bands. Mrs. Esterhouse is coming down from Portland and has a hard progressive rock sound. Bad Terms are from Corvallis and definitely are raw thrash punkers.
The great thing about this show is our chance to see 5 totally different bands with totally different sounds all coming together for one night in Salem. It’s a Smorgasbord of Punk. All 5 bands are unsigned and underground. The hard energy and talent they bring to the stage should definitely make for a memorable show!
The Wasteland is a new venue in Salem committed to bringing all ages live music to Salem. No drugs, alcohol, violence or attitudes allowed.
